Stop Motion Animation: Character Creation (New in 2016!)

The classic art of stop motion character animation has enjoyed a well deserved revival in the last few years. Films like The Nightmare Before Christmas, ParaNorman, and Box Trolls offer a level of physicality that computer animated films cannot. In this workshop, students will learn how to design and create a character for stop motion animation. They will then use traditional stop motion techniques to feature their creation in a short animation of their own.

Students will learn:

  • How to create a wire armature designed for animation
  • Proper design and creation techniques for stop motion characters
  • Camera operation, lighting, and other on-set skills

Prerequisites

This course is open to students entering Grades 8 through 12.
