Cosplay: Patternmaking MasterClass

There are many cosplay patterns available today, but what to do when you can't find a pattern that's exactly what you're looking for? The answer is to make your own patterns. In this cosplay MasterClass, veteran pattern maker and costume designer Wendy Ross Kaufman will guide you through a series of projects designed to build your skills in pattern making and working with more challenging fabrics.

You will learn:

  • Patternmaking and alteration
  • Proportion and how to translate a drawing into a costume
  • How to use a serger to tackle stretchy fabrics
  • Costume detailing methods such as beading, boning, and fabric painting


Students must either have taken Cosplay: Costume Design and Creation


Students must have the following skill set:

  • Know how to thread and operate a sewing machine
  • Read and follow a basic commercial pattern
  • Basic sewing skills, including cutting, pinning, simple assembling

This workshops is part of MasterClass series for students entering 10th - 12th grade.
