Cosplay: Costume Design and Creation

Cosplay is a popular performance art where participants design and create costumes to represent characters from anime, comic books, cartoons, and video games. This workshop teaches you how to make your own costumes and covers such topics as costume design, sewing, stage makeup application, wig styling, prop building, and other techniques necessary to build complete costumes.

You will learn:

  • History of costume design
  • Color schemes, textiles, and makeup basics
  • Hand sewing and sewing machine techniques
  • Character portrayal

Note: This is a non-digital workshop; students need no knowledge of computers to participate.


This course is open to students entering Grades 8 through 12.

Workshop hours are Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Students should arrive no more than 30 minutes prior to the start of class. There are free optional after-workshop activities most days from 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm.*

*Due to the July 4th holiday, Session 1 hours will be 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  After-workshop activities will be from 4:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

DigiPen's ProjectFUN offers workshops, camps and college prep courses for kids and teens. Technology courses are held in Redmond, WA (near Seattle and Bellevue), and online.
