DigiPen appreciates that homeschooling is a unique journey for every family and the primary goal of the DigiPen Homeschool Academy is to offer an educational experience that meets each family’s academic needs. Directly supported by DigiPen, the Academy provides students in grades K-12 with quality opportunities to learn in an engaging student-centered environment, where teachers work to challenge students individually to take their learning to the next level.
The experience at DigiPen Homeschool Academy can be best described as being between a traditional homeschool co-op and a comprehensive school. Our exploratory and preparatory level classes run for over four days each week, and families may choose to take as few or as many courses as needed to meet their student’s learning goals. In addition to offering core general educational courses in math, reading, writing, and science, DigiPen Homeschool Academy offers a wide variety of its well-known technology courses in video game programming, art and animation, game design, engineering, and music and sound.
From a structural perspective, there are three basic levels of classes that are based on the following grade ranges:
It is important to note that DigiPen celebrates the multi-age aspect of our courses and places students based on their current knowledge and skill. Grade ranges are used as a guideline. If you feel that your child would do best in a class outside of the typical grade range for their age, please contact one of our coordinators. They can help you place your student in the appropriate class. Many courses do not require prerequisites, but in the event that a course has prerequisites, DigiPen will assess student knowledge and ability to ensure the best placement.
In addition to the many varied classes held throughout the school year, the DigiPen Homeschool Academy also holds a two year program for students in grades 8-12. The two year Game Development Academy is a multidisciplinary exploration of creating games. The class incorporates instruction in game design and theory, computer science and programming, art and animation, and sound and music.
Successful completion of the first year class is required to take the second year class. For more details visit the Game Development Academy page.
Each year of the Game Development Academy is independent for registration, but intended as a continuous two year experience. First year students will create several introductory projects as they learn the fundamental skills of game development. Then they will join into teams to culminate their year in a group game project. Second year students will be given more challenging and wholistic individual and team projects, including creating development tools, promotional marketing, and installation media.
DigiPen utilizes classrooms at Overlake Church, which is located directly across the street from DigiPen’s campus at 9900 Willows Road NE, Redmond. This location allows for spacious classroom space, convenient drop off and pickup (with less traffic and more parking!), and better suited activity space.

We want all students to be successful here! For your student to make the most out of their time at the DigiPen Homeschool Academy, families new to the program are required to speak with a DigiPen Homeschool Academy Coordinator before enrolling in courses. We can assist you in placing your student into the appropriate courses. Prerequisites for courses, as well as the general grade range that a given course is suitable for, are listed with the specific course descriptions. DigiPen understands that the abilities of homeschooled students do not always fit traditional standards and you are encouraged to contact us should you feel there are factors that should be considered.
To schedule a time to speak with a coordinator, or to arrange a tour, please contact email@example.com.
