Digital Sculpting (Online)

Digital sculpting tools are heavily used in the entertainment industry to create realistic models of characters and creatures featured in today’s video games, animations, and films. In this workshop, you are introduced to an array of digital modeling, sculpting, and painting techniques to create character models games, film or 3D printing. You will also learn fundamental art skills relevant to character and creature design to help ensure that your work looks amazing.

You will learn:

  • Creature anatomy and structure
  • Digital sculpting techniques
  • Modeling techniques for 3D printing
Prerequisites and Requirements

Prerequisites

This course is open to students in Grades 8 through 12.
Students must also possess the following basic computer skills.

A student must be able to:
  • Zip and unzip files
  • Upload files to class distance learning site
  • Navigate class distance learning site
  • Download software
  • Install software
  • Have administrative access to PC
  • Use Windows operating system running on a PC
  • Read and understand instructions
  • Read a computer screen
  • Have keyboarding skills to type messages in chat
  • Navigate websites
  • Demonstrate interest in subject matter
  • Think logically and sequentially
  • Sit at a computer workstation and use the screen for up to two and a half hours at a time

Technology Requirements

In addition to the prerequisites listed above, students must have access to a computer that meets the technology requirements listed below. We also recommend students use a drawing or graphics tablet, but it is not required.

 Hardware:

  • Windows PC or Mac computer (not all programs are Mac compatible)
  • Headset with microphone
  • Broadband internet connection
  • Three-button mouse
  • Display with minimum resolution of 1024 x 768
  • 64-bit Intel® or AMD® multi-core processor with SSE4.2 instruction set
  • Refer to the following pages for a list of recommended graphics cards: Maya Certified Hardware
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • 4 GB of free disk space for install

Software:

  • One of the following browsers:
